Rabi Nimrod Simono, a distinguished Assyrian scholar from Iran and one of the leading figures of twentieth-century Assyrian literature, visited Australia in 1985 as a guest of the AAA in Sydney. He came to teach a course in the Assyrian language and deliver lectures on Assyrian history and culture to communities in Sydney and Melbourne.
His course — covering modern Assyrian grammar and teaching methodology — ran at Fairfield High School from 22 April to 6 August 1985. To honour his visit and his lifelong contribution to Assyrian education, the AAA established this scholarship in his name.
The Rabi Nimrod Simono (RNS) Scholarship provides financial assistance for students matriculating into tertiary education. Since 1986, the Assyrian Australian Association has provided over $130,000 in scholarships to Assyrian-Australian students. Education sits at the centre of the AAA’s values — the Association believes educated communities create happier, more enlightened societies, and has supported the education of Assyrian youth since its founding in 1969.

Open to graduated HSC students with at least one Assyrian parent

Awarded to the highest ATAR achievers pursuing university study
Applicants must write a short 500-word essay highlighting tertiary education pursuits and their current and future contributions to the Assyrian community.
